The National Emergency Management Agency has issued a Tsunami Warning this morning (Tsunami Warning for New Zealand coastal areas) following the magnitude 8.1 earthquake near Kermadec Islands region earlier his morning.
While parts of New Zealand have been evacuated and others are on alert the Ports of Auckland have issued the following statement:
“Due Tsunami Warning for New Zealand coastal areas following the magnitude 8.1 earthquake near Kermadec Island Region, we have suspended operations, both landside and vessel side, to assess the situation.
We expect to have an update within the next 30 to 60 minutes. Please refrain from sending the trucks to the port until further notice. For any VBS queries please contact Drivers Assist Team.
