MUA Withdraws Industrial Action Against DP World

An application to Fair Work Australia (FWA) by DP World asking them to intervene on the current industrial action at Port Botany was due to be heard on Saturday, 19 September. The Maritime Union of Australia withdrew all industrial action prior to Saturday’s FWA hearing and have undertaken that there will be no further industrial action until I November 2020 as per the below release from DP World Chief Operating Officer Andrew Adam.

The withdrawal of industrial action is limited to DP World at present and whilst it will help with activity through Port Botany the other terminals operated by Patrick and Hutchinson are still subject to previously advised action and will continue to have impact on delays through Sydney ports.

Carriers operate through all terminals so we are unable to isolate carriers using DP World only.

At this point there is no news on discussions with Patrick and Hutchinson, we will update when and if information becomes available.

Dear customers,

We are pleased to inform you the Maritime Union has withdrawn all industrial action at DP World Sydney effective immediately, ensuring all normal services at the terminal may resume.

Additionally, the union have confirmed via written undertaking that they will not be taking any industrial action of any kind at our Port Botany terminal before 1 November.

Without the distraction of bans and limitations, we anticipate we'll be able to progress outstanding local matters at DP World Sydney in the pursuit of a finalised enterprise agreement.

As we communicated earlier this week, DP World made an urgent application to the Fair Work Commission to intervene on threatened industrial action at our Port Botany terminal, due to our serious concerns about the impact it would have on an already fragile NSW supply chain.

Had industrial action not been withdrawn, our application would have been heard this afternoon, Saturday 19 September.

We appreciate the assistance of the Fair Work Commission for listing the matter quickly, which facilitated this outcome for the NSW supply chain.

We look forward to a return to normal service, and thank you for your patience and understanding during this period.
